Single Tooth Implant: A missing tooth/ teeth can be embarrassing, limiting a person’s ability to smile, lowering their self-esteem. The space left by missing teeth, can cause other teeth to drift out of place, and making it difficult for people to speak or eat properly.
What are dental implants?
There are two parts to a natural tooth: the root (below the gums) and the crown (the visible part used to chew food). Natural teeth and implant-supported restored teeth share the same basic components. Both have a crown and the root which secures the tooth under the gums and anchors it to the jawbone.
Implants are made from titanium – the same material used to replace knee or hip joints. In the event you lose a tooth, both the root and the crown are lost. Dental implants are the metal roots that fuse into the jawbone. Th artificial tooth is attached to the implant by use of an abutment. Sometimes instead of artificial tooth, implants be fitted with special clips or attachments (like press stud) to hold the denture to minimise the denture movement.

Single Tooth Implant: The Process
Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth if you have lost one or more teeth. We invite you to schedule an appointment with our dentist by calling (03) 9878 3233. You will be examined by a dentist to determine if the procedure is right for you. Your gums and jawbone need to be healthy before we begin the procedure. We will need to treat any cavities or signs of gum disease before placing the dental implants.
Once the dentist clears you for the procedure, we will obtain few X-rays and 3D scan of the jawbone along with digital scan of your missing teeth and remaining oral structures of the mouth so that we can send it to a dental lab for creating surgical guide to perfectly place the implant in the jaw bone. This latest advancement in the digital dentistry has made implant placement more predictable and less traumatic, making post-operative healing and recovery faster than before.
Single Tooth Implant: The Procedure
Implanting a metal post under the gum line is the next step in the procedure. An implant is unique among cosmetic dentistry procedures due to this aspect of the procedure. A metal post is attached to the jawbone to create a synthetic root system. In a few months, the metal post and jawbone will fuse.
The dentist attaches the new synthetic tooth to the metal post at the gum surface with the help of abutment. It takes time for the bone around the dental implant to heal and grow. A strong foundation for artificial teeth is created when the bone bonds with the titanium. Afterward, an abutment is placed on the implant and a crown is placed on top. The implant can often be covered with a temporary replacement tooth immediately after it is placed. Several options are available for supporting replacement teeth if all of your teeth are missing.
Since the new tooth is so securely attached, patients can eat whatever they want, maintain an active lifestyle, play sports, and more without worrying about their tooth falling out or becoming loose.
